The Cook II
Dessert painted across a table for thirty. The planning, the plating, and the moment everyone digs in.
Film by Shot Seeker Media
Thirty food enthusiasts. San Francisco kitchens. Meals inspired by Alinea, The French Laundry, Noma, and the restaurants we couldn’t stop thinking about.
The kitchen is closed. The stories are still here.
A cooking club built around one rule: bigger and better each time.
Once a month, thirty of us got together to recreate meals from the restaurants we admired. There were ambitious plates, very long prep lists, and a lot of washing up.
Alinea · The French Laundry · Atelier Crenn · Noma · wd~50 · El Bulli · Eleven Madison Park · Momofuku
Living well and eating well are one and the same.
The making of
Alinea ends its tasting menu by painting dessert straight onto the table. We did it for thirty, across the whole table.
From the first sketch to the last spoonful, six photographs tell the story. Use the arrows to browse, or select a photograph for a closer look.

A small experiment
Watermelon, a chamber vacuum, and a very different texture: glassy, dense, and full of flavour.
Served cold with blue cheese, toasted hazelnuts, and olive oil. One of the little plates that stayed with us.
More from the pass
Spanish night
Mussels. A tortilla the size of a hubcap. Two enormous pans of paella.
The one night nobody used tweezers.
